Finally: TheValueVantage.com Is Live
For investors who understand the journey and focus on the big picture.
A warm hello to all new readers! I’m glad you are on board.
New here? I’m Michael and on a mission to make beating the stock market as easy for you as choosing your favorite ice cream. I've written an algorithm that did it over the long term.
How it all started. The journey so far.
The real challenge in investing isn’t finding the next big thing, it’s having the patience to stay on course when others lose sight of the fundamentals.
If you’ve been following my Substack for the past two years, you know I’ve shared a lot with you along the way—debugging code, hitting walls in development, making performance tweaks, and spending more late nights with error messages than I’d like to admit.
But today, I’m excited (and a little nervous) to say that TheValueVantage.com is finally live.
Before we dive into what that means, I want to take a step back.
The Reason
I’ve spent most of my career as an engineer, but like many of you, I’ve always been interested in how to grow my wealth—effectively and with minimal noise. The more I looked into the investment research space, the more frustrated I became – and as you know, I lost a lot of money while it tested these services.
Most of the services I tried fell into one of two camps:
Opinion-heavy and noise-driven—Where everyone is chasing trends or trading on the latest headline, only to get burned.
Complicated and opaque—Filled with jargon and promises, but often impossible to follow along in my daily life and failing to deliver on those promises over the long term.
I was looking for a simple solution, grounded in real data— built on fundamentals and a logical strategy.
When I couldn’t find what I was looking for, I decided to build it. Yes, I was naïve, but I learned a ton along the way, as many of you know.
What TheValueVantage Does
At its core, TheValueVantage is not about daily stock picks, market news, or trading advice. It’s not flashy. It doesn’t pretend to have all the answers. What it does is use 27 years of back-tested data to produce a list of 25 stocks every day, each selected based on its fundamentals:
Balance Sheets
Earnings Reports
Cash Flow Statements, and
Daily Close Prices
The approach is simple: Invest in the 25-stock list once a year and hold for 12 months.
That’s it.
There’s no chasing trends, no constant monitoring of news, and no scrambling to react to market noise. TheValueVantage runs a daily scan of thousands of US stocks to give you the freshest insights grounded in fundamentals and historical patterns that worked repeatedly.
But here’s the key difference: not everyone gets the same information at the same time.
The stock lists are updated and refreshed daily, so each member gets a fresh report, based on the previous trading day’s data. This means no flood of investors chasing the same stock at once, hence no competition, keeping the strategy as effective as possible.
Who It’s For (And Who It’s Not For)
TheValueVantage isn’t for the thrill-seeker or day trader. If you’re someone who likes the adrenaline rush of chasing the latest meme stock or jumping in and out of trades every week, this probably won’t scratch that itch. And that’s ok.
But if you’re a long-term investor, someone who wants a more thoughtful strategy built on logic and data, this might be what you’ve been looking for.
It’s designed for busy professionals—people who have other things in life they want to focus on. I created it for someone like myself: someone who’s serious about growing wealth over time, but doesn’t want to spend hours every day reading stock analyses or stressing about daily market movements.
You set it once a year, let time do its thing, and spend the rest of the year focusing on what matters most to you.
What You Can Expect
I’m not going to sit here and make guarantees about returns—no one can, and no one should. But what I can offer are results from a tool that has been rigorously tested against decades of historical data. It’s designed to minimize the noise in our life and give you clean, actionable insights.
Delivered in a simple, clean PDF. It’s not full of fluff or commentary—it’s just the data with some hard facts.
Why I Keep It Small
Another thing to note: I’m intentionally keeping this community small. TheValueVantage is built on a strategy that works best with a limited number of people. By keeping the member circle capped, it helps ensure the strategy remains effective and doesn’t lose its edge due to too many people flooding the same stocks at once.
For those of you who’ve been with me on this journey, you know I’m all about transparency. This isn’t a get-rich-quick thing, and it’s not about trying to “beat” the market every time in the short term. It’s about building a reliable, long-term strategy (that can also lose from time to time) but it aligns with future financial goals—without the noise. The long-term performance in the simulations doesn’t need to hide at all.
Try It for Yourself
As you know, I’ve also built a return simulator, so you can see how the strategy has performed over time. I encourage you to see for yourself—how the strategy works and decide for yourself if it resonates with your goals.
If it does, I’d be happy to welcome you to TheValueVantage community. As promised, my paid subscribers already got their 20% discount in a separate email.
Closing Thoughts
This has been a long, winding road—over two years of coding, testing, breaking things, fixing them, and starting again. I’m proud of where this project has become, and where it will go. I’m excited to finally share it with you all.
If you’ve been reading my Substack for a while, you know I don’t make a habit of hyping things up. TheValueVantage.com is no different. It’s an option for those who are looking for something grounded, simple, and built on solid data.
Thanks for following along, and if TheValueVantage sounds like it’s for you, I’d love for you to give it a try. If not, I’ll still be here, writing about this process, sharing my findings and (hopefully) more successes too.
Take care,
Michael
Progress:
Obviously finished the homepage. As I know myself, I will tweak a lot of things as it evolves over time.
I also finished writing a video script. I know many people prefer watching over reading.
On top of that, I spent some time diving into more CFA material.
What’s on my mind:
One word: Finally 😊
Today is also my fourth wedding anniversary, and we are going out for a nice dinner.
Nuggets:
Just finished listening to Einstein: His Life and Universe by Walter Isaacson
(no affiliate link). There were some surprising things about his personal life I didn’t expect—let’s just say it wasn’t exactly a straight path.
Hit the heart and get some Einstein sparkle!
